A Contemporary Take on a Storied Past

Lighting reconnects a contemporary lobby with the character of one of Times Square’s storied addresses.

This two-story lobby at 1501 Broadway draws on the character of the building’s past as home to the Paramount Theatre, yet the project itself was a complete renovation down to the structure. Goldstick Studio developed the lobby lighting design and a family of custom brass and acrylic LED fixtures that reinforce the period-inspired architecture while providing contemporary performance. Custom pendants, sconces, and integrated lighting establish a consistent visual language throughout the space, while recessed LED downlights provide ambient illumination and help ease the transition from the brightness of Times Square to the interior. Together, architectural and decorative lighting create a cohesive environment that feels rooted in the building’s history without relying on historic reproduction.

Custom light fixtures in art deco style make the 1501 Broadway Lobby renovation historically accurate.

Historic lobby restoration with a contemporary twist

Custom Lighting at the Center of the Experience

Custom brass and acrylic fixtures create a defining feature within the double-height entry lobby. Designed to complement the architecture rather than reproduce historic fixtures, they use concealed LED strip lighting to create a warm internal glow and a strong visual presence appropriate to the scale of the space

Balancing Broadway with the Interior

At street level in Times Square, the transition from exterior brightness to the interior presented its own lighting challenge. Recessed LED downlights provide ambient illumination that helps bridge that transition, while decorative and functional lighting work together throughout the lobby to create a comfortable, cohesive environment.
